Animals at Pet Stores May Not Be Pure Bred!

The American Kennel Club does not guarantee the pedigree of your puppy.  The AKC only records information supplied by the breeder.  This means that you must do the detective work to see if your breeder is who they claim to be.  Many times puppies in pet stores are supplied by what people refer to as "puppy mills".  People that run these types of operations usually do not keep accurate records, do not positively identify dogs,  and sometimes can falsify information that destroys the integrity of receiving an American Kennel Club certificate.  An AKC certificate does not mean your dog is purebred!
At Black Forest, records are kept on each dog and all dogs are either tattooed or microchipped for positive identification.  Because Black Forest breeds for competition in Conformation, it is important for accurate record keeping to be maintained to emphasize good traits and to breed out any undesirable traits.  This can only be done through selective breeding and ACCURATE record keeping.

Animals at Pet Stores May Be Sick, Either Through Infection or Genetics!

Sick puppies can be expensive!  Puppies sold through pet stores are sometimes sick with parasites from poor living conditions either at the pet store or from the place where they are bred. They also may have genetic problems due to indiscriminate breeding or inbreeding.  Our puppies receive a schedule of vaccinations from our veterinarian and are properly immunized prior to their departure.  They are guaranteed to be free of genetic defects.

You Never Meet the Breeder at a Pet Store!

We prefer meeting our puppy people whenever possible.  If we cannot, we spend a lot of time talking to the prospective puppy family.  We want to know our puppy people, and we want our puppy people to know us!  Note as you look through the websites how many people list their names.  We are proud of our work as breeders and want to share our knowledge, experience, and work with you.  Every puppy we breed carries the Black Forest name.

You Can Never Meet the Sire or the Dam (Father or Mother) of the Puppy at the Pet Store!

Even if you can not come to meet with us you will be given photographs of at least three generations (if available) and a 3-6 generation pedigree (depending on the information in our database).  If you can come for a visit you are welcome to meet with your puppy's relatives and look through our weimaraner archive books and videos and other dog related materials in our dog library.

You Never See the Cleanliness of the Breeder's House at a Pet Store!

We deal in a limited number of puppies to ensure the highest standard of cleanliness is maintained.  Our puppies begin crate/house training at the age of four weeks to make their transition from our home to yours a smooth one.
